Why is Mike sad, this is what he wanted? He wanted her to leave him alone and be out of his life. He didn’t want to be friends anymore. He got exactly what he wanted. Why now, 9 months later, is he sad that she wants nothing to do with him, what did he expect? He had every right to end a toxic relationship, to which he was an equal contributer, but in no way was the way he did it right or even remotely okay. He did a horrible thing. He made his bed and now he gets to sleep in it.

Everything Lucy said was true. His once feeling of ‘love’ for Lucy was just directed at her to replace Sandy. Lucy always knew it, and that’s why she always turned him away. It was also why she told him that he should try calling her again when she found out Mike had her number, but never tried to call her again after the first try upon getting it.
