Doesn't matter if you put a new car in, you have to stay somewhat in the real world's time. Backdrop item that puts forward a large portion of detail and character without wasting any time or panels to explain it is grade-A choice good idea.
Had you used a 2008 or whatever IS-F, it would look a bit generic as all cars int hat time did. Look at iPhones along the 2007 year, does their design match what we have seen?

It is 2008 in the comic! But it is not July of 2008. Nor would it be easy to access such a rare and limited run of vehicles easily.
A new car is easier to find references for than old car. Look at the suv that Mike's mom drives.
