Mike: Great. Picked by the other team.. I think I’m the only freshman, once agai--

*Lucy screams at him. Jay stands near Mike holding the kickball.*
Lucy: YOU’RE GOING DOWN, JERKFACE!!!

*Lucy keeps yelling.*
Lucy: WHEN IT’S MY TURN, I’M GONNA AIM DIRECTLY INTO YOUR FACE!!
*Mike holds his hands up, looking nervous.*
Mike: G-guh!!
Mike (thinking): Geez! She’s especially bloodthirsty today!

*Lucy squares her shoulders, glaring. Nearby, Tess, Paulo and Amaya wait their turns. Tess and Paulo are trying hard not to look at each other.*
Gym teacher: Okay, Lucy? You’re up first!
Lucy: It’d be my pleasure.

*Jay rolls the ball toward Lucy with a determined expression.*

*Lucy kicks the ball hard.*
Lucy: Nghh!

*Mike’s eyes cross as the ball hits him square in the face. His cheek swells up.*

*Mike clutches his head as unknown students watch the match.*
Mike: O-owww!!
*Lucy runs by, grinning.*
Lucy: BULLSEYE! HAHAHAHA!!

[An arrow, pointed at a base]
*Band t-shirt boy stands at the base, blushing while Lucy smiles demurely.*
Band t-shirt boy: Dude.. she’s hot..
*David runs for the ball while an unknown student tries to help.*
David: CATCH IT!!
Lucy: Safe ♥

*Tess looks nervous. Paulo and Amaya stand behind her and smile encouragingly.*
Gym teacher: You’re up next, Tessa!
Tess: Urk..
*Paulo gives Tess a thumbs-up.*
Paulo: You can do it Tess!

*Jay narrows his eyes as he holds the ball.*
Jay: …

*Jay leans in, smirking at Tess. Paulo and Amaya watch.*
Jay: Hmph..
*Paulo notices Jay’s expression.*
Paulo: ..?

*Jay grins mischievously and rolls the ball as hard as he can.*
Jay: Hah!

*Tess winces as the ball ricochets off of her leg.*
Tess: Ack! Oww!!

*Jay looks over his shoulder towards his teammates and starts running while Tess looks at him in surprise.*
Jay: That counts! Get the ball!!
Players: Yeah! Yeah!!
Tess: WHAT?

*Lucy, panicked, starts to run for the next base. Behind her, the band t-shirt boy grins smugly.*
Tess: It hit my leg, I didn’t kick it..
Lucy: Erp!!
Players: IT COUNTS!! Get her!!

*Paulo looks on with a worried expression.*
Lucy: Tess, run on to first base!!
Tess: But I didn’t-
Lucy: JUST DO IT!!
Paulo: …

*Paulo grits his teeth. Amaya and Abbey stand against the wall behind him.*
Paulo: Grrr
*Abbey’s arms are folded over his chest. His eyes narrow as he watches the game.*
Abbey: …
*Amaya glances at Abbey with concern.*
Amaya: ..?
Tess: Okay, okay!

Author commentary

Veronica: Time for a glorious and deliciously-violent game of kickball! Lucy still has it in her, she hasn’t lost her spark despite being stuck in a classroom for a few months.

Lucy’s so much fun to draw when she’s springy and competitive like this.. especially since she always carries that semi-pissed expression on her cute little face.
